What my certification means

HOW DO I BECOME A PILATES INSTRUCTOR?

BodyTree Academy (BTA) offers 2 entry points: via our Pilates Matwork Teacher Certification Course and our Reformer Teacher Certification Course.

Most studios prefer to hire a Comprehensively trained Pilates Teacher – this means completing the following suite of Pilates trainings:

1. Pilates Matwork Teacher Certification

2. Reformer Teacher Certification

3. Spine Corrector Teacher Certification

4. Studio Teacher Certification (This covers the Wundachair, Cadillac and the High Barrel)

Successful completion of the course and the relevant exams will result in a Teacher Certification.

WHAT TYPE OF INSTRUCTOR TRAINING DOES BODYTREE ACADEMY PROVIDE?

The ethos of BodyTree Academy is quality teaching; this means that our graduates are effective teachers, being able to read clients’ bodies, and program and execute a class that is relevant and meaningful. We don’t believe in merely teaching a Pilates piece for the sake of it.

Our Training is modular, giving you flexibility with your learning, with plenty of video resources to refer to while enrolled in the program. Our supportive and highly experienced Educators (who have a combined experience of almost 80 years!) will make your course inspiring and meaningful.

BodyTree Academy also accepts Pilates instructors from other schools to take up our courses, as well as clinical professionals to pursue a clinical certification.

WHAT MAKES BODYTREE ACADEMY'S INSTRUCTOR TRAINING DIFFERENT TO OTHER COURSES?

The BodyTree Approach is a client-centric approach, based on the belief of teaching the clients presented, as opposed to mindlessly applying a fixed sequence of exercises to any body.

In each course, you will learn the critical thinking process. This process is imperative for you to teach a class that is relevant, meaningful and effective for your clients.

You will:

– understand and learn how to do each exercise well and what each exercise’s primary intention is

– learn how to look and “read” your clients’ bodies

– make informed judgements about what you see

– learn to make modifications or progressions to an exercise as required

– learn about class design and class programming

WHERE CAN I INSTRUCT AT THE END OF MY COURSE?

BodyTree Academy is well known and respected in the Fitness industry, we have many studios reaching out to us seeking our graduates. Find out more here: https://www.bodytreeacademy.com/partnerships/

ARE THERE ANY HIDDEN ADDITIONAL COSTS TO MY CERTIFICATION?

You will need to factor in cost of your First Aid licensing, which is a requirement by SportSG for all fitness trainers to have. You can find a list of accredited standard first aid and AED courses here.

Other costs:

  1. Rental of studio space for clocking in program hours

  2. Private lessons to aid in your learning

  3. Ad-hoc Group training sessions

  4. Subscription fees after the 1st year to keep your access to the video resources

DOES MY BODYTREE ACADEMY PILATES INSTRUCTOR CERTIFICATION EXPIRE?

No! Your BTA Pilates instructor certification has no expiry date!

DO I NEED TO BE A "REGISTERED" TEACHER BEFORE I GET A JOB?

In Singapore, there is no National level requirement to be a “registered” teacher beyond attaining your Teaching Certification.

But if you intend to teach overseas, or require to attain a registered status, our graduates are eligible to take the National Pilates Method Certification Exam by The Pilates Method Alliance (PMA).

WHAT IT TAKES TO BECOME "REGISTERED"

You can find out the requirements from these links:

THE VERDICT

A majority of our trained instructors choose not to become registered with an association, and BodyTree Academy’s promise is that our graduates are effective teachers. Ultimately your education is in your hands, and if you wish to know more you can reach out to Tabitha (info@bodytreeacademy.com)
